Let Them Come

The Glowing Warm Laugh of a Child

September 29, 2025

This devotional encourages your tears. It hopes to create a sense of safety, a space of security, where all you are, all you feel, all you hold dear, and all you hope are welcomed and made at home. May it hold your hand, lend you an ear, offer a shoulder, and belly laugh along with you, Beloved Child of God.

Jesus Wept.

John 11:35

In another universe, I meet my father when he is a child.
We play catch in the woods and as we play he tells me he isn’t allowed to cry but sometimes the world hurts him and he doesn’t know what to do with all that pain.
So I give him the shoulder he needs to cry on.
And he does. He does until the tears are done.
Afterwards, I buy him ice cream and I listen to his laugh, the glowing warm laugh of a child who knows he is safe.
I wish someone could have done that for him.
Been a kind, safe place for the child he used to be.
Would it have made a difference?
Would it have made a difference?

Nikita Gill

Let the children come to me; do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.

Mark 10:14b-16

A Blessing for Your Week

Beloved Child of God,
May pockets of safety cradle you
Spacious pockets
Where you can be all you are
Where you can cry without shame
And love without fear.
May you know a love
who offers a shoulder for your tears
And savors the warm glow of your laugh.
May this security rest within you
And bring with you peace.
Amen.
